For various reasons domestic violence offenders may express a desire to seek individual or couples counselling. This may or may not be appropriate or safe for the victim and should not be considered an indication that there will not be any future violence or abuse.
The safety of the perpetrator’s family must always be the primary consideration.
Some services offer intensive perpetrator programs that seek to address offending behaviours.
Counselling for the offender will only be useful if the offender takes responsibility for the acts of violence and genuinely wants to change their behaviour.
